Hazel is a passionate floral designer, gardener, broadcaster and content creator with a varied and rich background in the creative arts. She previously worked in television production, traveling worldwide with international recording artists. After surviving a rare cancer diagnosis, she founded a vintage retail and event production company. Her skills in creative direction and reputation for innovation and excellence ensured this was a quick success. This talent for creating unique visual experiences led to collaborations with many including the V&A, Tate and Selfridges. In 2016, wanting to explore her love and natural instinct for gardening, and wishing to create with her hands she re-trained at McQueens Flower School in London. Hazel Gardiner Design was founded shortly after, establishing its own narrative in floral design.
Hazel is passionate about promoting diversity in floristry and aims to help create more opportunities within horticulture for people of colour. To further promote this subject, she has written articles for the British Flower Association and The Florist, the UK’s only trade floral magazine. She continues to work with Future Gardeners offering both floristry and business training. Hazel is currently representing floral design for the RHS as part of their online educational resources. In September 2021 Hazel was announced as a Trustee for the Garden Museum. This pivotal role will specifically see her bring fresh ideas and perspectives for their burgeoning younger, more diverse and digitally aware audience.
2021 saw Hazel also expand into broadcasting with two appearances on Gardeners’ Question Time, alongside a segment on Gardeners’ World with Rachel de Thame and BBC’s One’s, The One Show. She has also recorded a three-part English Heritage YouTube series, ‘Gardens Through History’ with further BBC projects planned for winter 2021. Hazel has been featured in numerous media outlets including Gardens Illustrated, House & Garden, The Sunday Times, LivingEtc, House Beautiful, Gardeners’ World Magazine and International Traveller.
We are a fresh thinking floral artistry and design studio based in Stoke Newington, East London, creating unexpected visual stories from single vase arrangements to large installations.
